Meet Our Board

President
Steve Fetrow - is a graduate from Florida Southern College with a BS in Business Administration. Steve's work background includes a lengthy career with General Electric, where his assignments included those as Sales Representative, Product Trainer and Process Improvement Leader. Steve sustained a SCI 27 years ago in a three-story fall while working on a summer college job in central Florida. A former nationally ranked wheelchair racer and tennis player, Steve's previous love of competitive sports has turned more toward recreational oriented activities such as fishing. Over the years, his passion to promote both competitive and recreational adaptive sports lead him to serve as past President of RAD Sports (Richmond Athletes with Disabilities) as well as assisting with the start-up phase of Sportable-Richmond Adaptive Sports & Recreation several years ago. Steve was nominated for the 2008 Governor's Volunteerism Award in the "Volunteer" category in which he was runner-up. In 1998 he was nominated for General Electric's Gerald L. Phillippe Award in recognition of his many years of outstanding community service. Steve has been an active member of the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Virginia since 2005 and has served as President since August of 2007.

Vice President
Craig Fabian - has been active in the disability field for more than 17 years. A graduate of Ramapo College of NJ with degrees in Business Administration and Economics, Mr. Fabian has helped bring disability awareness to the forefront. He has worked for Federal and State programs organizing conferences and workshops promoting Assistive Technology for the disabled. Since becoming disabled due to a spinal cord injury in 1969, Craig has been continuously striving to bring equal access to the disability community. He has served on both civic and religious committees and has become well known for advancing disability rights. Craig has volunteered more than 15 years as a Peer Educator to recently spinal cord injured individuals. He has also served as a scout leader for the Boy Scouts of America and is a recipient of their "Profiles in Courage" award. Craig has served as Vice President of the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Virginia since August 2006.

Treasurer
Mandy Sent, CPA - Mandy is a Supervisor at Goodman & Company, LLP, having worked there over two and a half years. She moved to Virginia from Ohio where she worked at a small accounting firm. She graduated cum laude with both a Bachelor's of Science in Accountancy and a Master's in Accountancy at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She is a licensed certified public accountant in both Ohio and Virginia. She is also a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mandy has served as Treasurer of the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Virginia and Executive Committee member since September 2006. Mandy was the recipient of the 2007 SCIAVA Volunteer of the Year Award.

Secretary
Meg Fabian - is new to the field of disability awareness and advocacy. She first became aware of the everyday challenges of the spinal cord injured after meeting Craig in 2002. Since then she has tried to eliminate barriers and educate those who may unknowingly discriminate. With over 20 years experience with Philip Morris/Altria as a Purchasing Manager, Meg will bring a wealth of business expertise to the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Virginia. Meg is a graduate of Seton Hall University with a degree in Industrial Relations and Business Management. Meg has been attending monthly meetings for over a year and has assisted in developing many of SCIAVA's current projects or programs.

Board Members
Shawn Floyd - became involved in working with people with spinal cord injuries in 1999, after sustaining a T6 complete SCI in a motor vehicle accident while studying at Radford University in 1998. He returned to Virginia Commonwealth University and received his B.S. in Criminal Justice in 2000.
In July, 2005 he was hired as Executive Director of Spinal Cord Injury Association of Virginia. For the prior two years he served as President and had also previously served as Secretary. From 2005 to 2006, Shawn also served as the Vice-President of Chapters for the National Spinal Cord Injury Association. Prior to his involvement with the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Virginia he worked for Virginia Commonwealth University Health System's Model Spinal Cord Injury Program as both a consultant and Research Specialist. There he developed the "Introduction to Computer Skills and Job Search Training" program for persons with spinal cord injuries.
Shawn is the proud father of twins and currently serves as SCIAVA's Peer Support Coordinator, providing mentoring assistance to those with new injuries.


Michael Chenail - is the founder of Compliance Alliance. As a widely recognized leader in the disability community he is dedicated to creating awareness of social and architectural obstacles and unconscious discrimination of those with disabilities. Four years, post spinal cord injury, resulting form a motorcycle accident in 1985, Mr. Chenail began his work in the disability field in 1989. Michael comes to Spinal Cord Injury Association of Virginia with many years of service to the disability community. He has worked with businesses, community organizations, and local government agencies assisting in the recognition and resolution of accessibility issues.
Michael is an avid outdoorsman, as well as a member of the National Wheelchair Pool-players Association, The National Wild Turkey Federation Wheelin' Sportsmen, and Moose International. When he is not advocating in the boardroom, or participating in one of the many sports or recreational opportunities available to people with disabilities today, Michael is diligently working within the community… advocating for change. Matthew Deans - sustained a T12/L1 SCI in a car accident in July of1998 at the age of 16. He realized that as a person with a disability he was now part of a community that needed a lot of help and advocacy to obtain equal opportunities. Since his injury, he has volunteered his time to the Youth Leadership Forum of Virginia, sponsored by the Virginia Board for Persons with Disabilities where he reaches out to other young persons with disabilities and helps them to discover their true potential. He worked for a number of years as a Transition Coordinator at the Endependence Center in Norfolk, VA. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Christopher Newport University in December of 2005. He is currently enrolled in the Rehabilitation Counseling Graduate program at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also works full-time for The Choice Group as a Vocational Technician.

Monroe Ricks - was injured in a motor vehicle accident in 1959. He has lived for more than four decades with a T1-2 SCI. Injured at a time when there were few resources for those with disabilities, he knows first-hand the importance of a positive attitude and self-advocacy skills. He worked full time until retiring from Bond Vacuum and Sewing Center in 1989. He is a long-time member of Spinal Cord Injury Association of Virginia and HIGH Hopes.

Corbin Ensign - is Vice President/Marketing Director for VAMAC Inc, a wholesale distributor and retailer of plumbing and related supplies headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. Corbin became a T10/T12 paraplegic over 21 years ago, at age 25. In 1988, Corbin was invited to talk as part of a 4 person forum at the American Supply Association in California discussing People with Disabilities (PWD) in the workplace and what was needed to make businesses and the workplace environment accessible under the ADA legislation. Corbin became a member and later the President of the MCV/VCU Women's Health Council from 1988 to 2001. This group was instrumental in launching the MCV Women's Pavilion at Stony Point. Corbin played a key role in requesting that the exam rooms be user friendly to PWD. She had a long time interest in helping with Spinal Cord Injury advocacy and became a member of SCIAVA in 2007. In addition to a successful business background, Corbin is married with two teenage boys, who were both born after her accident.

Terry Glenn - is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in Administration of Justice and Public Safety, and a minor in Psychology. Terry has been employed with the Virginia Department of Corrections for over 20 years, working in various positions over the years. He is currently the Interstate Corrections Compact Coordinator for the Department of Corrections, which involves coordinating inmate exchanges between Virginia and 37 of the 50 United States, as well as exchanges internationally. He also works part-time for SunTrust Mortgage Company, in their Loss Mitigation Division. He currently serves as a board member in a Gubernatorial appointed position for the Commonwealth Neurotrauma Initiative which oversees grant awards for spinal cord and traumatic brain injury research. Terry sustained a C-6-7 spinal cord injury, 32 years ago, at the age of (16) sixteen in a car accident while in route to deliver newspapers in Charles City, Virginia. Terry is a newly elected board member of the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Virginia. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, playing chess, cooking/barbecuing, and traveling with his wife Constance.
