ODC Programs

The emphasis of ODC related programs is to promote the health and well-being of individuals with spinal cord injuries. These interactive sessions provide knowledge and understanding of life after injury and explore quality of life concerns. People with spinal cord injuries, their families and caregivers, and health care professionals are encouraged to get involved. The following are brief descriptions including additional links to more specific information regarding each topic.

The Mentor Program
A Peer-Mentor Approach to Empower People with Spinal Cord Injuries. The purpose of this program is to help people with SCI by providing them with a peer-mentor - someone who has first-hand knowledge about SCI and life after the injury. Typically, a mentor is able to help because he or she is willing to share his or her unique life experiences and knowledge. Many successful people have had a mentor to help them achieve goals in areas like education, employment, recreation, and family life. Without this extra help, their goals could have been more difficult to achieve. Contact the ODC office for more information on this helpful program by calling (804) 726-4990 / VA Relay 711 or by writing to info@odcnscia.org

Quality of Life
The ODC/NSCIA Quality of Life Program is designed to provide financial support to ODC/NSCIA members with spinal cord injury or disease. This program was developed to foster participation in pre-approved, hobbies, sports, education, activities, gym membership, weight loss or smoking secession programs, education, and/or equipment needs. The program goal is to enable participants to achieve their highest level of independence, health, and personal fulfillment. During the coming fiscal year, we will be offering twelve awards of up to $250 each! Click here to download a Quality of Life Program Application.

Women with SCI "Chat" Group
Are you a woman with a spinal cord injury? Do you know of one? We have situations and circumstances that are different from our male counterparts. Would you like an opportunity to meet with other women to just talk about your experience? If so please join us! Contact the ODC office for more information about the group as well as their next get-together at (804) 726-4990 / VA Relay 711 or write us at info@odcnscia.org

ADA Training 101
Designed to educate and empower individuals with disabilities on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 the ADA 101 Basic Training course explores the various aspects of this vital civil rights legislation as it relates to the lives of those living with a disability, including the spirit of the law and its vast potential to impact America's future. The training addresses the facts and myths of the law and covers such topics as Civil Rights, Barrier Removal, Reasonable Accommodations, Readily Achievable, Parking Design, Grandfathering, Responsibility and Enforcement, New Construction, Alterations, and Historic Preservation. To learn more about the ADA and our next scheduled training, call Michael Chenail at 540-832-0201 or write to Compliance Alliance at accessus@adahospitality.com.
